About the Partnership

Bayer

Bayer AG is a global enterprise with core competencies in the fields of health care, agriculture and high-tech materials. The Group is represented around the world by over 280 companies and is headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany.

The global trends of our time – a growing world population, increasingly scarce resources, ever greater demands in terms of food and health, and the impact of climate change – are creating major challenges for present and future generations. Bayer is supplying answers to these pressing questions and using its core business to play its part in identifying solutions. Enshrined in the Mission Statement "Bayer: Science For A Better Life," this approach also forms part of the Bayer sustainability concept.

As a company with worldwide production operations, Bayer emits greenhouse gases – and is therefore part of the climate change problem. At the same time, the Group develops a wide range of products and solutions to help tackle climate change and mitigate its effects. As part of its integrated Bayer Climate Program, the company invested EUR 1 billion in the research and development of environmentally friendly technologies in the period to 2010. It is also pursuing ambitious targets to cut emissions along its production chain.

What's more, Bayer is talking to the people who will be most affected by the effects of climate change – young people across the globe. The partnership with UNEP gives the company an opportunity to engage in constructive dialog with young environmentalists, to pass on information about solutions developed from its own core business, and to gather important ideas for how it can ensure its operations are sustainable.
